$30,000 INVESTMENT SUPPORTING RURAL WOMEN’S GATHERING AT WALCHA

A grant of $30,000 will put Walcha and district in the spotlight in November 2019 with the staging of the NSW Rural Women’s Gathering.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said he was proud to be involved in obtaining the grant and said the annual gathering is a life-changing event for participants, particularly in times of great stress.

“This year we’ve seen an unprecedented drought and tremendous pressure on our farming and rural families.

“For many women, attending the Rural Women’s Gathering is one of the few times they take time for them to recharge, regroup and re-energise.

“Especially during drought, rural women are facing increased stress and pressures at home and tend not to prioritise their own wellbeing.

“These women do awesome job all year round in all sorts of seasonal circumstances.

“One of the worst droughts since 1964 has added a great deal more pressure to family life on the land.

“Hosting a Gathering allows regional towns to showcase their local talent, produce and environment.

“The Rural Women’s Network is committed to supporting rural women to come together to build resilience, develop skills, network and share experiences,” Mr Anderson concluded.

The theme for 2019, ‘Creating a natural high’ will be explored over the weekend of 1–3 November 2019.
