Media Release: GLENRAC to keep the Wheels Turning with $61,353 Grant
8 December 2022
A STATE Government grant to purchase a new staff vehicle for the Glen Innes Natural Resources Advisory Committee (GLENRAC) will ensure the continued delivery of services and support to the community, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall said the $61,353 NSW Community Building Partnership grant would be used to purchase a new AWD vehicle for GLENRAC volunteers and staff so they could continue to deliver services to their membership and community across the district.
“GLENRAC has maintained a 4WD utility for many years and in recent times, due to their increase in volunteer numbers and staff members, it’s become apparent that to keep everyone moving and engaging with the community, they really need another vehicle,” Mr Marshall said.
“The vehicle renewal is a huge step forward for GLENRAC, providing them a vehicle suitable to comfortably carry additional passengers as well as materials needed for events such as field days and their popular Smoko with Friends events across the district.
“This is a great result for GLENRAC and I’m delighted this funding has been provided to support more people in the Glen Innes district.”
GLENRAC CEO Kylie Falconer said the organisation had sought quotes from local suppliers across the region and hoped to take delivery of a new vehicle in the first half of this year.
“GLENRAC has a growing membership with 1,600 current members, a management committee of 16 and a staff team of seven,” Ms Falconer said.
“The new vehicle will be a benefit to all members as we work towards connecting our community with information, services, and resources to support their land management goals and build community capacity.”
GLENRAC Chair Julie Firth said their teams often travelled many kilometres to assist landholders with natural resource management projects and events.
“With members spread far and wide across our region, it is vital that the staff have a safe and reliable vehicle to undertake these grassroots activities,” Mrs Firth said.
“We are very grateful for the assistance that the NSW Government has provided through this Community Building Partnership grant.
“A new AWD vehicle, to supplement our aging 4WD, will certainly help GLENRAC to continue to provide support, encouragement, and professional services to communities in the New England region.”
