Trees for Farms Field Day

 

Local landholders who are interested in planting trees now or in the future are invited to attend a Trees for Farms field day. The field day will be hosted by GLENRAC at Col & Joy Bakers property "Ker-Even" 14457 Grafton Road, east of Glen Innes on Thursday 11th October 2012. The day will commence with morning tea at 9:30am and will conclude at approx 12:00pm.

Guest speakers at the field day will include, Chris Eveleigh from Kentucky Tree Nursery who will guide us through native trees and shrubs species selection. Danny Lightfoot & Troy Dawson from Glen Industries Horticulture will guide us through the key aspects of site preparation, planting and post planting care of tree plots. Shane Andrews a farm forestry consultant from Armidale, will discuss the impact of tree planting on pasture growth, pasture production & livestock production.

The field day site will showcase previous plantings and this years prepared site for planting. The mounder used for site preparation, will also be on display. The mounder is on loan from Border Rivers Gwydir Catchment Management Authority and will be available free of charge for those interested in using it.

This field day is supported by the Australian Governments Caring for Our Country program. The project aims to increase native habitat and connectivity on farms across the Glen Innes District. This project will plant 10,000 native seedlings across the Glen Innes district during November/December 2012.
